This is the first volume devoted entirely to the Photographic Archive of the Fondazione FUORI! in Turin. Through images, it reconstructs the history of the United Italian Homosexual Revolutionary Front (FUORI!), a foundational organisation in Italy’s homosexual liberation movement. Drawing on largely unpublished photographs, it traces the period from 1971 to 1982, from the movement’s founding to the end of its collective experience.
The critical essays bring together perspectives from history, art history, gender studies and activism. The title announces the gesture at the heart of the volume: to bring into focus, through demonstrations, places, and people, histories long relegated to the margins. The book restores visibility to a period of struggle that profoundly shaped the country’s cultural and political history, while contributing to a visual history of how LGBTQIA+ subjectivities have been represented.
